What is a EUR1 document?

At DKM Customs, we regularly receive the following questions: "What is a EUR1 certificate and what is the meaning of this certificate?" Below, we clarify this as best we can.

The meaning of a EUR1 certificate or EUR1 document

The EUR1 certificate is a preferential commercial document which ensures that your customer receives a reduction of or waiver for customs duties. The amount of customs duty (also called import duty) may differ per country and also per product.

Customs validates the EUR1 certificate. They also check the application and see if all the relevant data and information have been included.

Free trade agreements

The EU concludes preferential trade agreements with several countries, or groups of countries. However, you have to meet the requirements. Think of the notification in customs legislation or the individually concluded protocols that have to be met.
